Sean T. O'Neill

Sean O'Neill concentrates his practice on real estate and commercial litigation matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state and federal courts, with a particular focus on insurance litigation and the oil and gas industry. Sean has experience in complex insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes, class actions against insurers, as well as handling the defense of ERISA claims for a Fortune 500 employee benefits company. His experience also includes representing natural gas pipeline companies in multi-state and mid-stream pipeline projects, representing real estate development companies in zoning appeals and related litigation and handling various landowner disputes from eviction and ejectment actions to confession of judgment and breach of lease claims. 

In addition to his insurance and real estate work, Sean devotes a substantial amount of his practice to other complex commercial litigation matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state and federal courts, including government contract disputes and representing business owners in disputes relating to the sale, separation or dissolution of closely-held partnerships and companies.

  • Representing interstate gas pipeline companies in various federally-approved pipeline replacement and expansion projects
  • Representing a reinsured in litigation involving issues of coverage, notice, waiver, prejudice and the duty of utmost good faith
  • Defending insurers and debt collector in class action involving state and federal claims, including claims for consumer fraud and unfair debt collection practices
  • Playing a key role in the representation of a bankruptcy court-appointed independent examiner investigating creditors' allegations of wrongdoing in the $3.6 billion leveraged buyout of the Tribune Company in 2007
  • Representing business owners in disputes relating to sale or separation of limited partnerships and limited liability companies

In collaboration with the members of the Insurance Practice, Sean publishes theReinsurance Redux, a monthly "redux" on developments in the law of reinsurance and arbitration. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey.
